The hardest game they play is the one you never see.

What shapes them

Beneath every game, your child carries quiet questions and fears that shape how they feel and how they play.

What you notice

These questions and fears drive the nerves, the self-doubt, the holding back, and the reaction to setbacks you’ve seen in your child.

How you feel

You’ve likely found yourself wondering, what do they need and how can I help? Especially when the drive home is tense or quiet.

Once you see the inner game, everything starts to shift.

The workshop

Most help works on the surface. This reaches what’s underneath.

Beneath the Game is a live workshop where you’ll understand what’s really driving how your child plays, feels and competes, so you know how to help, at the source.

What we’ll explore together
A team huddle

Understand your child

  • The real reason behind the nerves and self-doubt, and why it isn’t what most people think
  • Where real confidence comes from, and why the usual kind is so shaky
  • What makes a mistake linger, and why they can be so hard on themselves
A parent session

The part you play

  • Why your relationship is the foundation, the thing no coach can give
  • How to help them hold a steadier sense of who they are, beyond results
  • What they need most in the hard moments, like a tough game, selection, or injury
Nick presenting to a room of parents

What you’ll walk away with

  • A new lens and simple framework for what to do before, during and after games
  • What the best performers do with their minds, and how to pass it on
  • A relationship that brings you closer, on and off the field

And the drive home becomes a place of connection instead of tension.

Parent stories

A small shift in you. A bigger one in them.

Mistakes stopped taking over

“I told my daughter her father and I have no expectations of her, that we only care about her enjoying herself. I could tell she was really taking it in. Since then she hasn’t fallen apart after mistakes, and she’s been better than ever!”

Helen, parent
Connection came back

“I tried what you said and stopped giving advice after games. I just let her lead. For a while we didn’t talk about the game at all, but after a few weeks she started asking me what I thought!”

Mark, parent
His belief came through

“We’ve noticed a marked difference in his presence on the field. He’s finally coming to believe in himself. He has a very different game voice now. One you pay attention to.”

Marie, parent

“His guidance for parents in supporting their children’s journey is invaluable.

Nick Marr
Who you’ll learn from

Hi, I’m Nick, and I’m sport obsessed.

I do this work to help young athletes play free, find their best and love their sport, and to give parents the insight that helps.

I’ve spent thirteen years in sport, coaching teams and athletes, and far longer playing it myself, so I know the ups and downs of the journey from the inside. I studied sports management and started out in community sport development, then trained in integrative psychotherapy to understand the inner game more deeply. Since then, I’ve run workshops for more than two thousand young athletes and their parents.

Beneath the Game is how I share what I’ve seen work, so sport becomes something that brings you and your child closer, which to me matters as much as anything that happens on the field.

“Nick Marr is a leader in this field. He clearly articulated to parents how to create a framework that encourages positive environments where players can grow and develop.”

In their words.

“It was a very insightful workshop for me. You gave us a very practical approach to the reality of sport and how we could cope with that.”

Deanna, parent, NTFC

“I was truly impressed and inspired by the parent session. I found it very beneficial for me and my son.”

Emi, parent, NTFC

“Nick is a fantastic presenter and the session provided good reminders on how to best support our daughter throughout the season. Thank you Nick!”

Katrina, parent

“They played like a different team. The Nick Marr effect strikes again! They mentioned how different it felt to play and how much they enjoyed the game.”

Marcus, youth coach

“I didn’t worry about anything while playing. I played free and played my best in ages. Thanks Nick, you really helped.”

Tyrone, athlete

“His mindset has totally changed, he is a different person and player.”

Thomas, parent

“He makes the psychological side of the game tangible, pragmatic and enjoyable. Universally well received across both the female and male spaces.”

Craig, NPL coach

“Unreal. I’ve done many workshops, and by far, this was the most engaged I’ve been. Very inspiring and eye-opening!”

Girls NPL player

“Thanks Nick, enjoyed how you provided different perspectives to communicate and support our teenagers, and also reinforced what we’re doing right.”

Sharon, parent

“You really helped make a noticeable difference and impact on the team. The positive behaviour and resilience is amazing. You have helped this team including myself to grow and shine, and believe. Thank you!”

Dale, coach

“I loved Nick’s parent session. You can feel how committed he is to his message.”

Jenny, parent

“I’m feeling more confident and relaxed going into games now, much more joy and freedom. Thank you Nick!”

Your questions answered

Yes, all of them. Whether it’s a field, a court, a track or a pool, this is about your child, and what they feel when they play and compete.

Parents of junior athletes aged roughly 10 to 18.

Every level, local, club, community, representative or elite. And every kind of player, whether yours is ambitious and competitive or simply loves to play. Playing free is playing your best, and loving it.

Now’s a good time. Wherever you’re at, regular matches, finals, trials or off-season, what you take from it helps. The sooner you understand what’s going on for your child, the more of their season they get to enjoy.

It’s live on Zoom. Come as you are, listen in or join the conversation. The Q&A is there if you want it, but joining in is always up to you.

Yes. One ticket covers your household, so both parents or carers can join live or watch the replay together, and get on the same page.

You’ll get the full replay, yours to keep forever. If life gets in the way, you won’t miss a thing.

No, the live workshop is for you. Afterwards, your child gets their own guide, How to Play Free, so the ideas reach them once you’ve had the chance to take them in first.

Not at all. It starts from the opposite place: you love your child and want the best for them. Pressure comes from many directions, their own expectations, coaches, selection, the game itself. Your relationship is simply one place you can offer something steadying, and that’s where we focus. No guilt, just clarity.

Come along, and if it’s not what you hoped, email us within 14 days for a refund. The replay’s yours either way.

Yes. Clubs, academies and associations can give their whole parent community access. Get in touch and we’ll sort it out.
